Hi! My name is Herendira Valdez, patients usually refer to me as Dr. Valdez or Dr. Eddie. I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice/ Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, treating patients across the lifespan. I am a strong advocate of “whole-person/holistic” health, and encourage my patients to explore, physical, mental, and social factors that may be contributing to the physical symptoms of their illness. In psychiatry, taking the holistic approach is of utmost importance, and as your clinician, I will advocate and encourage you to embrace this path to recovery.
I am fluent in English/Spanish, which allows me to connect with patients from various cultural backgrounds. I first became invested in helping others while initiating my career as a Social Worker for the City of Phoenix. Once I experienced community health, I realized that there was so much more to be done, especially in the behavioral health arena. I then returned to school and obtained an ADN from the Phoenix College Bilingual Nursing Program in 2008, then graduated with my undergraduate degree (BSN) from ASU in 2009. Once a nurse in the hospital setting, I gained experience/expertise in high acuity areas, such as the ICU, CVICU, ER, Trauma, and Special Procedures.
Working in high acuity areas, allowed me to continuously work with patients who were suffering from a wide range of illnesses. I quickly became interested in the mental health of those with chronic illness. During my graduate studies at ASU, I focused on the correlation between those with chronic illness, and subsequent mental health illness. I completed my Doctoral studies in 2015.
